FASHION REVOLUTION

We all know that a great many companies from developed countries produce the majority of their products in underdeveloped countries. In many cases this means exploitation and inequality. Out of almost 75 million people working in the textile industry, approximately 80% are women working in bad conditions in exchange for a very low wage.

Fashion Revolution, which is a global movement for a more sustainable textile industry, came about in 2013 to make known the stories behind the people who make clothes. It believes in and fights to radically change the way clothes are obtained so they are made safely, cleanly and fairly.

To achieve responsible sustainable fashion it must first be transparent.

To do so, the constant aim is to unify all the distributors, customers and companies which share this philosophy to achieve precisely that, i.e. transparency.

FASHION REVOLUTION WEEK: #WHOMADEMYCLOTHES?

Fashion Revolution Week event from 22th to 28th April, coincides with the date the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh collapsed, that is, 24th April 2013, killing around 1130 people, most of whom worked in textile factories.

This week centres on the campaign #whomademyclothes?, designed to encourage consumers to ask brands and retailers about the people who make the clothes they wear, and to demand greater transparency in their production processes. At the same time, we the companies undertake to answer all the questions with words and pictures.

We will show you part of our production processes and show the faces of all those real people who make El Naturalista possible.

EL NATURALISTA IS COMMITTED

Our brand is based on 3 pillars: product, planet, and people. Taking care of people is top priority for us, therefore, we wish to be transparent. We will show you the stories which make up our company day to day.

We are working so all our processes will be sustainable and not harm our workers’ health. To this end, we make all our products on our own premises, always choosing high quality raw materials and fostering manufacturing processes which combine attention to detail and innovation.

Furthermore, we look after the working environment, whereby our production centres develop initiatives to improve our sustainability.

  • 93% electricity savings by replacing fluorescent bulbs with LED.
  • Green energy consumption.
  • Reuse of fluvial waters for production.
  • Efficient waste management.
  • Efficient energy use: lighting control thanks to sensors, programming and making use of sunlight. Change to low consumption lighting. Ventilated façade and 21ºC acclimatization.
  • Development of greenhouse effect gas reduction initiatives: environment ISO.
  • Rationalization of water use thanks to replacement of lawn with shredded rubber flooring on our premises.
  • Origin of raw materials and products: the material is audited and our technicians visit the suppliers, who are required to meet European regulations and comply with REACH.

At El Naturalista we undertake to respect and foster Human Rights. So to uphold the principles governing our commitment to Corporate Responsibility we are sharing our Code of Conduct, which affects all activities involving people, and followed in our manufacturing workshops, logistics, offices and distribution.

Come and take part in this project! Find out who’s making your clothes.

Upload a photo of our shoes or products from other brands, label the brand in question and ask about product origin with the hashtag #whomademyclothes?

Despite its name, the planet Earth is chiefly blue since 70% of its surface is water. Water regales us with millions of pictures and shapes, i.e. seas, rivers, lakes, etc., not to mention the most insignificant yet the cause of large water masses, namely water drops. We have endeavored to inspire ourselves in them to develop the soles for this new line. Elegant, sophisticated with rounded lines.

Oceans were created drop by drop which at the same time have shaped most of the planet where we live and step by step how we should take care of it. Because if we want to look after our planet, we have to look after water.

AMAZONAS

The Amazon is known to be one of the largest rivers in the world and with the greatest discharge. It contains a fifth of the entire planet’s liquid water. It’s the most important river in Latin America and its waters cross 3 countries, i.e. Peru, Colombia and Brazil.

Its waters provide life for the people living around it from fishing, irrigation, navigation and even drinking water. The region created by the Amazon basin is called Amazonia, an ecosystem offering a wide variety of habitats for different living. 10% of the species known in the world and a third of animals live in its rainforest. The Amazon has generated the largest rainforest in the world covering 6 million sq.km, where we can find: savannahs, forests, swamps, etc. And it’s precisely this ecosystem which we wanted to recreate in the soles of this new line. A tough rugged sole as strong as any Amazonian tree, to accompany you while walking through life. Every step will teleport you to the most incredible place on the planet.

A collection inspired by water could not ignore this world wonder consisting solely of water. and capable of creating the largest ecosystem in the world.

RECYCLED TRUCK CHAMBERS
(in collaboration with Nukak)

Along the road of life, we are coming across many people like us who hope to be able to change the world. This is the case of Nukak, a company which started out in Barcelona with the sole purpose of reusing innumerable discarded materials. On this occasion, El Naturalista has joined forces with them to launch a shoe line created from recycled truck chambers.

Thanks to the preliminary process prior to becoming a raw material for manufacture, where they are classified, graphic selection made, and they’re cleaned, we’ve analyzed the qualities and characteristics of the chambers to enable better adjustment to the shoe shape and function.

Once again, we’ve gone for a quality sustainable comfortable footwear.

PREMIUM WOOL:

If there’s one characteristic that stands out in this collection is that it’s the coziest and warmest. We’ve left no stone unturned to find the best materials for its creation. And lo and behold we found the Burel Factory (since 1947) in Portugal which works with wool.

Premium wool is a 100% Portuguese woolen fabric traditionally used by shepherds from the mountain tops. It’s a warm highly resistant fabric.

What do you like most about El Naturalista?

Two things: the comfort and the design.

Tell us your story with the brand

I bought my first pair back in 2007 and I still wear them. They are old and worn-down, but still so comfortable and pretty! My green beauties. They are one of my favourite shoes because they never made my feet hurt or blister. One summer I spent a whole day walking in them while visiting Maribor. I was very surprised how comfortable they were and that is the reason I am a fan of the brand – the comfort. But the brand first caught my eye in Graz where I had noticed the Organico collection, especially the model N072. I guess the colours are the other reason I love the brand. I am just in love with the colourful designs El Naturalista make. Last summer I noticed the Zumaia collection and that will be my next buy. Shoes are expensive, but they are of very good quality, comfortable and special in design – that is why I like El Naturalista shoes.

Fino a quella strana sera.

I first discovered El Naturalista Shoes while on a trip to Barcelona. It was the vibrate colours that first attracted me. I love colour and I had always struggled at home to match my outfits and footwear. On my return home I ‘googled’ the name and found very few El Naturalista outlets near by home town. The nearest was Manchester – a 90 minute bus journey away. It wasn’t long before I made the trip and bought my first pair of green Yggdrasil clogs. I loved them and it wasn’t long before I made my second purchase on line. Over the last 12 years I’ve bought sandals, clogs of every colour, ankle boots, lace up shoes and knee boots. My latest pair are the orange/red – Caldera Myth Yggdrasil. When I look at me feet when I wear El naturalista they bring a smile to my face! They are fun, cool, comfy and colourful and eco-friendly – what more can you ask for? I look forward to each season and have encouraged friends and family to wear them.

I´m Kaja from Estonia, the tiniEST and smartEST country up North Europe. Do you think it´s possible to fall in love and remain in this condition for years? I´m a living proof of that! My first El Naturalistas – red Mary Janes will celebrate 12 years this summer and these ladies are still going strong. Small scratches on them are like wrinkles on my face – just a part of life, nothing to be afraid of. I truly admire my first ones! All that we´ve been through together – unlimited walks in the park with my daughters when they were babies, mountain hikes with my husband in Austria and Italy, a bit of travelling in cities and rough terrains on countryside! Nothing better than one can take long walks having really comfy shoes! I´m looking forward adventures next summer! Cool design, colors and comfort all in one – could one ask for more? Not to forget about super quality that makes them last forever! After I discovered El Naturalista shoes the next pairs started to find their way to me. All nine pairs are in use! I do care for my footwear with the same passion as I choose them and all my beauties smile back and look good for years. Good old school shoe care I learned from my grandfather who never put his shoes back to the shelf without cleaning and polishing them. For me the process is like a meditation that makes me happy. Let me tell you some more stories of my favourites! Dark purple Solar boots I found in Oslo while working on a travel fair. After some intense working days we had a wonderful concert ahead, time to relax and shine! My lilac hemp dress needed a good company and these fancy boots did their best. Living far north means more cold than warm days. And cold gets you through … feet! That´s the reason I love Yggdrasil family – their solid thick outer sole saves me from cold catching my feet. The Chelsea type of boots are always a must in my footwear collection and the green ones from El Naturalista are perfect for many walks from September to April. Snowy days in Winter I change them for even more solid Yggdrasil family member – the long red boots! They keep me warm and feed the need for attention – very often I notice curious glances on my boots. Once a lady came to ask where did I get such a beauties? I am always happy to tell about El Naturalista and lead to homepage. Luckily we also have Summer here in Estonia. Not too much of Sun and warmth, so a national joke tells: “Yes we had Summer this year, but I didn´t notice it as I was working this day!” Okay, the situation is not that bad, I was brave enough to order me a pair of sandals! My life style is quite green, so I found Torcal green sandals perfect! Love their asymmetric cut! Brilliant in days when we are loved by the Sun. Recycling, sustainability and less consumption are my values (okay, footwear is an exception, desire comes before the need) and I often buy my cloth in second hand shops. Incredible what a treasures one finds there! Once I noticed grey El Naturlista booties and I couldn´t leave them there! Think if somebody would pick them without giving enough love and care! Now they are cute vintage friends on my long walks with our dog. One couldn´t be more happy than me in a grey day of November last year – I won the El Naturalista game on Facebook! While reading the announcement I was just a big smile! Really? Is it true? A pair of Winter boots after my choice? Lichen heels ankle boots are super elegant! I felt like Christmas came so early this year! I´d finish with a secret I share with my El Naturalista shoes and boots – the outer sole – most of them have a story from the wide World! I do admire all these creative people giving so much joy! Thank you! Caminar por la vida con El Naturalista!

Tell us your story with the brand

I bought my first pair of El Naturalista’s almost 10 years ago. I had just moved to Canada and a small independent shoe shop carried a few styles. I picked the recyclus Ella wedge shoe as I loved the fact that it was made from recycled material, was leather and was gorgeously styled with a wedge heel and multi-coloured green stripes. Over the years I have had many comments on the shoe, and ended up being somewhat of a brand ambassador, talking people’s ears off about what good quality and how comfortable the shoe was. The shoes are my favourite pair and the one pair I always take with me when travelling as I know I can walk all day in them. After 10 years of abuse (I wear them in the snow snow sometimes too) they are nearing the end of their life. There is a small hole in the insole that has almost worn through to the outside. Knowing this, I have been searching website after website to find a new or used pair in any colour in my size for the past couple of years, even going so far as to search commerce sites in foreign languages which I don’t speak, but translate through online tools. A couple of times I have come close to finding a pair but alas I’ve never found one in my size. I was searching again today and my heart skipped a beat, as it looks like this style is being made again! I found some on the El Naturalista site (in lovely shades of purple) but alas not (yet?) in my size. https://www.elnaturalista.com/en/natu-e928-grain-black-humo-arona-recyclus-ella.html I can only hope that you are testing how well it sells and that if it goes well, will expand to larger sizes (please make a 41 for this tall girl) and other countries (Canada please). I’ll be first in line to buy a pair. Until then, I’ll keep scouring the web for any new one for sale.

It is time to enjoy summer, days at the beach, afternoons on the river and dips with friends. In El Naturalista we return to accompany you one more season in this incredible trip through life. And we want to do it in a special way, in a more blue way. Tell us, could you imagine a summer without a beach, river or lakes? It’s impossible, right?

When we talk about caring for planet Earth, everyone tends to think in green color. Although it is called Earth, if we see it from space, our planet seems rather water. It becomes the blue planet. At El Naturalista we have always been concerned about sustainability and the care of the planet, which is why this season is dedicated to water. To the salty and sweet. To rivers, seas and swamps. And to all the animals and plants that live in this ecosystem. Because if we want to take care of our planet, we have to take care of the water.

Candles, shells, algae, recycled braids … new textures, colors and shapes flood this collection by filling it with freshness. Surprising you with new materials, new lines and models that are ready to conquer you.

The fight for sustainability is our priority and that is why we cannot miss our new vegan and chrome-free lining. Our webelieveinpeople.org movement continues to support social projects thanks to our donation of 2.14% of our profits.

In fact it is the only living structure visible from space. It stretches 2,300 km and is thought to start in Papua New Guinea and end on the southern coast of Queensland state.

The Great Barrier Reef of coral was declared Humanity Heritage by the UNESCO in 1981. It houses the greatest concentrations of biodiversity: 1,800 species of fish, 5,000 species of mollusks, more than 150 species of sharks and 400 different species of coral. This great barrier is made up over 2,000 individual reefs and approx. 1,000 islands. Among so many lives, the colors and shapes of coral are responsible for providing us with inspiration for this new line. Irregular shapes, bright colors and delicate designs are the result. Just like the coral, each model’s got a different shape and is made from different material. All brought together by the same sole which represents the essence of coral.

MARINÉ

Every inspiration, every inkling to learn more about our blue planet has led us to learn more about the life hidden in the water that surrounds us. It’s absolutely incredible without a shadow of doubt how small we become on realizing the amount of life there is in the sea. And it’s precisely all this knowledge we’ve acquired which has led us to create this new inspiration. Mariné brings a complex out of the ordinary kind of sole, but then that’s precisely what marine biology is, strange, different and complex.

We not only wanted to inspire ourselves in marine biology because it fascinates us but also because it’s that science which apart from studying the living creatures inhabiting the ocean it also struggles to preserve marine life, both flora and fauna.

An innovative line, with new materials and fabrics replete with color just like the sea bed.

The Amazon is known to be one of the largest rivers in the world and with the greatest flow. It contains a fifth of the entire planet’s liquid water. It’s the most important river in Latin America and its waters cross 3 countries, i.e. Peru, Colombia and Brazil.

It started flowing 2.4 million years ago making it one of the youngest rivers in the world. Its source is in the Peruvian Andes at an altitude of 5,998 meters and flows into the Atlantic Ocean via Brazil. It’s been christened the ‘Freshwater Sea’ due its length of almost 7,000 km and width which can reach up to 45 km.

SLEEP SOUNDLY WITH NATURE:

• If you’re looking for a comfy night’s sleep, place a camping roll mat under your sleeping bag. This will lift you off the ground enough to ensure there aren’t any hidden stones or sticks digging into your back or ribs during the night; you can further enhance your sleep by using an airbed. If you have managed to pitch your tent on a slightly elevated area, sleep with your feet facing downhill.

• Keep warm at night by making sure you have a sleeping bag with the right insulation. We also recommend making sure you have the right number of layers on during the night – although this will obviously vary from person to person.

PACK WISELY – BUT NOT NECESSARILY LIGHTLY:

• Torches, lanterns, and headlamps are vital accessories when it comes to camping. Without the light pollution, it can become very dark, very quickly in the countryside. Make sure you pack plenty of each, and we’d recommend a LED camping lamp for inside your tent, particularly one which can be hung from the roof of the tent and has various strength settings.

• When it comes to food as there will be no fridge or freezer to hand, it’s important to make sure you have a cool box which is stored in the shade. It’s recommended you only buy food for use on the day in question.

• Even though camping is about going back to basics, there are some home comforts which you’ll still need to make sure you have on you including matches / lighter, spare batteries, a mallet to help put the pegs into the ground and a small First Aid Kit. It is also (highly) recommended you pack the bottle opener/corkscrew, and a tin opener.

camping

• When it comes to selecting camping equipment, opt for quality. Although this is likely to be slightly more expensive (in the short term), it’ll last longer – meaning you can have many wonderful years of camping ahead of you.

• In good old Boy Scout fashion, when camping “be prepared.” This means not only remembering the small things (as mentioned above), practicing pitching your tent and taking spare pegs; but being prepared for all eventualities. So wherever you’re camping, make sure you pack your waterproofs and summer clothes, take tea bags/coffee and sugar, toilet roll, and some outdoor games to stay entertained while on the campsite.

camping

• Perhaps one of the most important tips for successful camping is to relax and don’t forget to laugh. It doesn’t matter whether this is your first or umpteenth time camping, tempers will fray and arguments are likely – whether it’s when putting the tent up, bringing it down or trying to light the BBQ and keep the children entertained at the same time.

But remember, camping is about enjoying nature and the great outdoors while spending time with loved ones – so take it all in, have a laugh and relax. After all, it won’t be long until you’re back at work, dreaming of being back on the campsite!
