El Naturalista, in line with its philosophy and humanitarian spirit, has offered a helping hand to assist those in need in Haiti.
The United Nations has estimated that about 3 million people have been affected by the earthquake. The Haitian government has reported that there are 300,000 families left homeless and living in the streets. A precarious situation!
El Naturalista, through the Atauchi Project, has begun to work on several humanitarian and cooperative projects than can provide a small measure of hope to the people of Haiti. The Frog Family is conscious that help is needed in an emergency situation like this. We are aware also of the importance of this long-term problem and for this reason we have been in contact with organizations that have proven stability and experience in the area.
It is important for El Naturalista, almost a moral duty, to contribute by providing what we know best: Shoes. Footwear to help those who have lost everything to “caminar por la vida” – “to walk though life” with a little hope.
We have organized our effort in two areas. First we are in contact with “Soles 4 Souls” to send a shipment of shoes.
In addition, we are fund raising for organizations with experience in the area and well respected by local agencies and the Haitian people. The Atauchi Project will donate for the medium-term phase of the country reconstruction. To this end, we are working with Salesian Missions, an institution that has been working in Haiti for many years. The Salesians, who work in five continents with the neediest communities, have focused on the education of children to contribute to the development of countries.
And at El Naturalista we know that the children are the future!
